Greed has broken system, says Rafidah

PETALING JAYA: Human weaknesses and greed has caused our country's system to be broken, said Umno veteran Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz (pix).
In her Facebook post, the former cabinet minister said recent developments in the country had caused a "credibility deficit" faced by its leaders.
"Yes ... some key parts of the system is indeed broken! It is being broken by human beings.
"We, the humans, should be safeguarding it and making it stronger, not breaking it up by human weaknesses, by human greed in some cases," she said.
"The system can only function to the level of the dedication and commitment of those entrusted with the responsibility, as custodians of and functionaries in that system and their sense of responsibility and accountability," she added.
Rafidah said certain current issues had only spawned new problems, and drew the nation into the limelight for the wrong reasons.
"A whole pandora's box has been opened ... the credibility deficit continues to widen and the whole world is watching" she said.
"So many things are going off tangent from what is right," she added.
She said it would take more than an economy fix to repair the broken system and remedy the public's trusts.
She added that the country could not afford to be shrouded by toxic "jerebu" (haze) and have the world look upon Malaysia with disdain.
