KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youh chief Khairy Jamaluddin called for a speedy resolution to the Kedah mentri besar crisis, adding that it could throw the state government into turmoil if not resolved.
"This could destroy the state governments' administration, as evident from the fact that the state assembly session last week could not proceed," he said.
Khairy added that the question of how to solve the crisis should be left to the leadership of Kedah together with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak who is also Umno president.
Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, was speaking to the media at the graduation ceremony for apprentices of the National Youth Skills Training Institute who recently completed their internships with Mercedes-Benz.
Khairy announced at the event that at least 50% of the courses at IKBN will be fully taught in English within the next five years.
"We are certainly looking into that, we have acknowledged that at present this is still an area which requires improvement. I think we can improve on this," he said.
Khairy set a time-frame of five years for the mandate as he said that it would be a realistic target.
"I don't want it to be like when we tried to teach Mathematics and Science in English in schools, we did it almost overnight. We have to set a realistic standard and time-frame and 50% of the courses in five years is a realistic time-frame," he said.
