GEORGE TOWN: The Pulau Tikus Loop (PTL) shuttle bus service is set to extend its route this Friday from Jalan Kelawai to Jalan Mount Erskine to cope with the influx of passengers along the stretch for the Chinese New Year next week.
Pulau Tikus assemblyman Yap Soo Huey said they expect to see an increase of about 10,000 passengers during the week-long celebration break.
She said this only shuttle bus service is to ease the traffic congestion and parking difficulties along the designated roads and will continue even after the celebration in view of the traffic woes.
"Each loop takes about 30 minutes and the bus stops at all Rapid Penang bus stops along its route to pick up and drop off passengers," she said, adding the service will be from 8am to 10pm daily.
PTL is a free shuttle bus service which began in October, 2014, initially covering Jalan Kelawai to Jalan Bagan Jermal, Jalan Burma and Jalan Pangkor. However, it no longer stops at Jalan Bagan Jermal.
From Friday, PTL will extend its 9.5km route to cover from Jalan Kelawai-Jalan Tanjung Tokong-Jalan Fettes-Jalan Mt Erskine-Jalan Burma- Jalan Pangkor- Jalan Kelawai.
