Maxis Q4 net profit grew 27% to RM468m

    PETALING JAYA: Maxis Bhd saw its net profit grow 26.8% to RM468 million for the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2015 (Q4FY15) from RM339 million in the previous corresponding quarter.
    Revenue for the same period also up 2.8% to RM2.18 billion, from RM2.12 billion a year ago.
    For FY15, its net profit increased 1.2% to RM1.74 billion, from RM1.72 billion in in FY14, while revenue was up 2.38% to RM8.6 billion, from RM8.4 billion previously.
    Maxis said service revenue grew 3.8% to RM8.54 billion, driven by the strong performance of the prepaid business and continued stability of its postpaid segment.
    Prepaid service revenue also grew 6.2% to RM4.18 billion, driven mainly by rising data usage and a higher average base of revenue generating subscriptions, while postpaid service revenue stood at RM3.93 billion.
    Excluding wireless broadband, its core postpaid service revenue grew 2.7% in the same period, supported by a growing base of high value MaxisOne Plan subscriptions.
    "2015 was a winning year for us. We grew both in revenues and profits, year on year, and won market shares," its CEO Morten Lundal said in a statement yesterday.
    "Our modernised network now covers nearly 90% of population while our 4G LTE network has more than doubled to 71% of population coverage, making us the leader with the fastest and widest in the country," he added.
    On prospects, the group said it will remain focused on maintaining its strong market position in an increasingly competitive and challenging economic environment.
    "Consequently, for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2016, we expect service revenue, absolute earnings before interest tax, depreciation and amortisation and base capital expenditure at similar levels to financial year 2015," it added.
