Flash flood updates

TANGKAK: Flash floods had resulted in 69 people from 13 families including four infants and 15children, to be evacuated from three villages on Saturday night.
The evacuees from Kampung Seberang Gajah, Kampung Sialang Dalam and Kampung Tanjong Laboh are housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sialang since 6pm on Saturday.
"The rise in water levels at Sungai Cohong and Sungai Asahan following a heavy downpour resulted in flash floods," said Tangkak Civil Defence Department sectary Shahrizan Abdul Aziz.
In Malacca, the number of flood victims sheltered at the 13 relief centres in Malacca continued to rise to 3,092 involving 670 families as at noon today.
The Malacca director of the Malaysian Civil Defence Department (JPAM), Lt Col (CD) Effendy Ali said seven relief centres were opened in Alor Gajah while Malalcca Central and Jasin had three centres each.
"The Malacca Central district had the highest number of flood victims with 1,530, followed by Alor Gajah (1,480 victims) and Jasin (82)," he told Bernama, adding 1,024 victims were sheltered at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Munshi Abdullah, Sekolah Kebangsaan Kerubong (388), and Masjidul Rahman Tanah Merah Kerubong (118).
He said that in the Alor Gajah district, 552 victims were sheltered at Sekolah Kebangsaan Belimbing Dalam, Balai Raya Taman Seri Bayu (499), Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Pengkalan (309), Sekolah Kebangsaaan Ganun (60), Balai Raya Kampung Beringin (34), Balai Raya Bukit Balai (18) and Balai Raya Bukit Tambun (8).
Effendy said another 55 victims were given shelter at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Simpang Bekoh, Sekolah Kebangsaan Chohong (24) and Balai Raya Asahan (3).
Meanwhile in Seremban, two temporary evacuation centres were closed while five others were still operating as at noon.
Negeri Sembilan JPAM director, Lt Kol (CD) Kamal Mokhtar said the two centres were the Surau Kampung Nerambai and Kampung Lubok Cina Community Hall in Rembau and Port Dickson which sheltered 23 victims and were closed at 9.22am today.

Five others that were still operating were the ones at Sekolah Kebangsaan (F) Sungai Kelamah which sheltered 598 victims; Masjid Sungai Dua (22); Parit Buloh Community Hall, Air Kuning (17); Sungai Kelamah Community Hall (seven) and Sekolah Kebangsaan Ladang, Gemas (four), all in Tampin.

"The total number of victims at the moment is 648 involving 158 families," he told Bernama.
