1,072 people evacuated due to flash floods in Kuching

KUCHING: A total of 1,072 pople in Taman Malihah were evacuated at 10pm tonight after it was hit by flash floods due to heavy rain and a blocked drainage system.
"The 1,072 flood victims from 223 families are being put up in the multi purpose hall of the housing area," said State Civil Defence Department public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Farhan Sufyan Borhan said heavy rain caused the water level in Sungai Tengah and Sungai Singai to rise suddenly, thus causing the flash floods. — Bernama
