PETALING JAYA: IPF, which was formed in 1990 by expelled MIC vice-president, the late Tan Sri M G Pandithan, will never merge with MIC.
Its president Datuk M. Sambanthan said that IPF will always chart its own independent course.
He dismissed a photograph that had gone viral on social media showing him and MIC president Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam holding hands.
In the photograph Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and others were sitting in the foreground.
The photo was taken at the MCA's Chinese New year open house on Monday.
Sambanthan told theSun that MIC had consistently opposed IPF's entry into BN.
"The Prime Minister support us, other BN parties support us but only the MIC oppose us," he said.
He said IPF receives extensive support among the Indian community, the majority of whom were of working class origin.
"We are a working class party that backs BN," he said adding if the MIC is sincere it should not oppose IPF's entry into BN.
