MALACCA: The state Fire and Rescue Department has mobilised its personnel to carry out post-flood relief work, especially to clean-up houses, mosques, surau or schools affected by the disaster.

Malacca Fire and Rescue Department director Nazili Mahmood said the department was not only focusing on relief efforts when the floods occurred but would carry out follow up initiatives.

"A lot of things need to be done after the floods, especially during the post-flood cleaning up at affected areas," he told Bernama here.

Malacca Fire and Rescue Department deputy enforcement chief Kamarulzaman Mohd Din said the department had set up a special team to help facilitate the rescue operations during floods in the state.

The team consists the Water Rescue Team (PPDA), Special Tactical Operation and Rescue (Storm) and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).
"The leave of about 250 personnel has been frozen to prepare for floods and they will be on stand-by in the event of any emergency during the Chinese New Year holidays," Kamarulzaman said.

Meanwhile, Malacca MCA chairman Datuk Lim Ban Hong said the party would concentrate its post-flood relief work to assist the elderly and disabled.
He said the party machinery was ready to assist in cleaning or repairing houses and also in channelling aid to flood victims.

"We have a volunteer squad which is always ready to help flood victims especially the elderly and disabled," he said. – Bernama
