PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan (pix) has finally broken his silence over the former opposition leader's imprisonment for sodomising the latter.
In a blog post today, Saiful said various quarters, including Anwar's family members and supporters, had gone overboard in lying and spinning the facts of the case in an attempt to seek for international support and sympathy.
"Without guilt or shame, these lies have been channelled to governments of other countries, influential individuals, and international bodies, with some of them actually believing, pressuring our government, and even donated millions of dollar to campaign for Anwar's release," he said.
Saiful said the lies should stop immediately, and urged those from the international arena to stop providing funds, insisting that Anwar was not a political prisoner, but a criminal prisoner instead.
Saiful also condemned Anwar's supporters' attempt to play the "human rights" card over his imprisonment, questioning why he was never treated the same even though he was the victim in the case.
"Am I not human that I am deprived of my rights as a victim by these 'human rights' bodies?
"I think this is the reality, that the world has turned upside down. People will defend individuals with interest, power and influence, and not normal people like me," he added.
Today marks Anwar's first anniversary of incarceration after the Federal Court on Feb 10, 2015 upheld a Court of Appeal's verdict that Anwar was guilty of sodomy, and was taken into custody and immediately began serving a five-year prison term.
