Damage to Rayani Airlines' plane not caused by foul play

PETALING JAYA: The shattered cockpit windshield of Rayani Airlines Boeing 737-400 was not caused by foul play but because of the hot weather.
Rayani Airline said that the engineer's report concluded that the windshield cracked because of the hot temperature.
Bernama reported on Monday that more than 200 passengers were left stranded at the Langkawi International Airport after Flight RN180 scheduled for the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA 2) developed technical problems.
The airline, Malaysia's first syariah-compliant airline, which took to the skies on Dec 20 last year charted an aircraft from Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) to ferry over 250 passengers that were stranded in Kota Baru.
Rayani Airlines had leased the 22-year-old aircraft from a third party.
An aviation expert said when leasing an aircraft the airline involved must always check and see how easily available are the spare parts, especially if it involved an older model aircraft.
"This model (Boeing 737-400) had been purchased by a third party after an airline in the region that had acquired a newer model. The airlines also sold all its spares for the aircraft to the third party," he said.
