PETALING JAYA: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has affirmed that former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh had never stated that the RM2.6 billion donation in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's personal accounts was from the state investment arm.
In a statement today, its chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin said this was consistent with the repeated confirmations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Attorney-General's Chambers to the public regarding the matter.
"I take note and am disappointed with the false information on social media, making false allegations pertaining to what had been said during Mohd Bakke's hearing at PAC on Feb 11.
"I can confirm that Mohd Bakke had never said, at any moment, that 1MDB funds had been transferred into the prime minister's personal account," he said.
Hasan said PAC's findings would be made public, and urged all quarters to stop speculating and wait for its official report that will be presented to Parliament in March.
It was reported that the PAC had recorded the testimonies of Mohd Bakke and former 1MDB CEO Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi on Feb 11.
Mohd Bakke had, on Monday, also denied saying that the RM2.6 billion came from 1MDB, refuting allegations on social media quoting him as having said the funds were from the company.
According to him, his statement to the PAC was never discussed on social media and he had never appointed anyone or any quarters to issue statements on his behalf.
Mohd Bakke said he would lodge a police report on the matter and would not hesitate to take legal action against those who slander and spread lies about him.
