Guan Eng defends his decision over firing

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has defended his decision to terminate the services of two PKR state assemblymen from state government-linked companies (GLCs) as he believes they are playing the main roles against the state.
He said PKR's Ong Chin Wen and Cheah Kah Peng had their services terminated while no action was taken against the other three PKR assemblymen, as the trio were not prominent in the move against the state.
Ong is the assemblyman for Bukit Tengah and Cheah for Kebun Bunga. The other three are Dr T. Jayabalan (Batu Uban), Dr Norlela Ariffin (Penanti) and Lee Khai Loon (Machang Bubuk).
Speaking at a press conference today, Lim said the other three assemblymen were only abiding by orders while Ong and Cheah were publicly against the state government.
Ong and Cheah together with the other three had abstained from voting against an Umno motion to halt all reclamation projects in Penang in the November sitting of the state legislative assembly.
It was reported that Ong was later removed from his director's post in Penang Invest and Island Golf Properties Bhd, a subsidiary of Penang Development Corporation, while Cheah was dropped from his post as director in Penang Hill Corporation.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali was reported as saying the PKR political bureau was against the removal while Lim had expressed surprise over Azmin's remarks.
