KUALA LUMPUR: Government Linked Companies (GLC's) and the private sector are urged to wear batik to work to create more demand for the product.
Wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said the effort is to preserve the culture and heritage of Malaysia.
"Currently, Malaysian government officers have been encouraged to wear batik every Thursday.
To this end, I call upon all GLC's and private sectors to also urge their staffs to wear batik on the same day of the week," Rosmah said when officiating the National Crafts Day 2016 (HKK2016) held at the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex here.
Rosmah added a continued demand for the product would subsequently contribute to the national economy.
