No assessment fees for new villages and low cost housing in Selangor this year

PETALING JAYA: The state government has decided to exempt residents living in new villages and low-cost houses from paying the annual assessment for this year, thus forgoing some RM64million in collection.
In making the annoucement today, state local government, new village development and legalising of factories committee chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah said this was to help ease the financial burden of the targeted group in view of the rising costs of living.
"The exemption is only for the current year of assessment. All local authorities in Selangor will issue notices and install banners in the affected residential areas to ensure the residents are aware of this move.
"For those who had already paid their assessment for this year, the payment will be carried forward to the following year," he told a press conference at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) headquarters today.
He said the exemption did not cover any arrears in assessment payment and this will be collected in accordance with the existing regulation.
Residents of low-cost housing eligible for the exemption include those who bought units priced RM42,000 and below as well as low-cost houses purchased in sub-sales under any low-cost scheme, he said.
For houses in new villages and cluster villages, he said all will be exempted from the assessment payment except those in new or planned development.
He also announced that hawkers and petty traders will not have to pay the licence fees for this year.
MPSJ deputy president Abdullah Marjunid, who was also present, said a total of 42,389 households under its jurisdiction will benefit from the assessment exemption payment which will amount to RM6.1 million.
