PETALING JAYA: Police have recorded a statement from PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar in connection with a picture depicting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak as a clown that was uploaded on her Instagram account.
Federal CID deputy director (Investigation and Law) Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh confirmed Nurul Izzah was investigated at Petaling Jaya police headquarters today.
He said she was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 504 of the Penal Code for provocation.
Nurul Izzah who was seen entering the police headquarters at about 2.30pm was accompanied by her lawyer Michelle Yesudas and PKR's Batu MP Tian Chua.
Speaking to reporters after having her statement taken, Nurul Izzah said she was called by the police a month ago.
"I think the issue is action taken against us (calling up for investigation). This is particularly to strike fear into the hearts of Malaysians in light of Najib's current position in Umno," she told reporters outside the headquarters today.
Nurul Izzah added that she refused to answer the questions asked by the police as she wants to answer them in court.
The 'clown picture' in question was drawn by activist Fahmi Reza and it was live on Nurul Izzah's Instagram account for the past five weeks.
