THE art of feng shui enables you to select a good property where the qi, or energy, is not afflicted and the luck not blocked by harmful structures.
For an existing property, the feng shui guidelines help you make amends for negative qi and activate the positive qi of a place through correcting and identifying the danger zones as well as the use of symbolism.
In other words, feng shui enables you to custom design your ‘luck’, and helps you move towards your aspiration by redefining the cosmic qi around you.
From a feng shui perspective, we can discern various kinds of property, some of which possess intrinsic good energy and fortunes which then benefit the occupants living in them.
There are certain areas and neighbourhoods which tend to have better feng shui and prosperity than others. This is because the effect of their surroundings and the layout or planning of their development are key to their prosperity.
For centuries, people in the East such as in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan rely every much on the skills of a feng shui master to assess and guide the energy of a property site to activate prosperity and ensure good health and fortune for its owners.
Even the business community consults feng shui masters in choosing the right office, location, interiors, décor as well as auspicious colours and motifs for their corporate identity and logo.
In ancient times, feng shui was used in town planning as well as the building of mega structures, and this art of divination was practised by scholars from Taoism, known as Fang-shih.
‘Fang’ means formula, method or technique and ‘shih’ means exponent or practitioner. Technically, the name means ‘those who are experts of the esoteric techniques’.
Later, it developed into a science with the invention of the compass during the Ch’ing dynasty, which became the science of studying feng shui energies.
Oriental medicine and philosophy are also based on the premise that, along with all the physical aspects of our world, there is a movement of a subtle flow of energy called qi.
And it flows in our bodies much the same way as blood. While our blood carries oxygen and nutrients, qi carries our thoughts, ideas, emotions and dreams.
It is important to realise that our thoughts and emotions have an effect on the quality of our internal qi as the energy directly affects each of our body cells which then could affect us physically.
It is said that this qi extends from 10cm to one metre outside our skin and mixes with the surrounding energy. Hence, one can be easily affected by the change of energy in the exterior environment too.
To begin the physical process of changing the energy in your space, take stock of what you have in and around your home. Here are some processes you can follow:
► Unclutter your space to allow unhindered flow of energy and recognise the contributions you need to make to another when you release items you no longer want or need.
► Unclutter your mind by reviewing your possessions and discard items that no longer hold value to you with the clear intention of releasing the old thoughts, beliefs, and emotions attached to them.
► Identify zones in your home where you feel disturbed, such as your living room or bedroom. Take time to meditate and introspect if you have been having sleepless nights, arguments or financial issues.
► Check if any additions in the form of artifacts, décor, relocating furniture or change of décor have triggered negative vibes. It could be even due to a construction or renovation of existing building which could have cause the afflictions. Work towards rectification and balancing the energies.
By analysing your home or office using feng shui principles, you can detect the trouble spots. But if you can’t, then seek professional help.
The primary approach of listing the feel of the space, identifying the problem areas intuitively and seeking assistance to mitigate these problem will help to improve the flow of qi in your home or office and, hence, improve your overall fortune.
