GEORGE TOWN: A Malaysian businessman is set to be the sole Malaysian to participate in the 6th Peking to Paris Challenge this year.
Datuk Sia Hok Kiang, 59, will be making the over 14,000km journey in a 1933 Rolls Royce Phantom II.
He said the drive would take one and a half months which begins on June 12 and ends on July 17.
"The rally is akin to climbing Mount Everest for the antique car racing world," he said after receiving a Penang flag from Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today as recognition for the coming challenge.
Lim said the state flag would be displayed in every city the rally stops which will promote Penang.
"This will be for a noble cause," he added in referring to the aim of Sia to raise funds for Mongolian children during the rally and said the state will discuss about contributing.
Sia said he purchased the 7.6 litre car in 2013 for RM1 million and has spent over a year to ensure the car is ready for the rally.
"I have spent more on rebuilding and refurbishing the car than on buying it," he quipped.
