New rail link joining KL to east coast in the pipeline

    PETALING JAYA: A new rail link connecting Kuala Lumpur to major towns in the east coast is on the cards.
    theSun learnt from reliable sources the double-track line will link KL to Mentakab, Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Baru and Tumpat.
    Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said SPAD and the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) had yesterday launched a market sensing exercise to gauge market interest and seek views for the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL).
    “Both SPAD and ECERDC are in the process of analysing different types of business, technical models and procurement strategies and alternatives for the implementation of the ECRL project.
    “The joint market study via a Request for Information (RFI) is designed as a consultation exercise to seek industry opinion and collate market feedback,” he said in a statement.
    He added that the RFI is open to companies and consortia who are interested in participating in the areas of ECRL railway design, funding, construction, operations and maintenance across the supply chain.
    “The deadline for submission for the RFI exercise is May 15 before 12pm,” he said.
