Ikea recalls Gothem floor, table lamp bases

KUALA LUMPUR: Ikea has recalled its Gothem floor (T124sm) and table (T35sm and T45sm) lamp bases following risks of electric shock.
According to the multinational company, the product recall was made after several cable damages were discovered at the base of the lamps.
"A damaged cable can cause the metal parts to release electric current which can be a safety hazard," said Ikea in statement here, today.
According to the statement, Ikea abroad had so far received two incident reports from two customers and a store worker who suffered electric shock.
However, no such incident was reported in Malaysia.
The Gothem lamp bases had been on sale at all Ikea stores since October 2015.
Meanwhile, Ikea emphasised that product safety had always been their main concern and the company does not take any risk lightly.
Therefore, the lamp bases should be withdrawn to avoid injuries and awareness on the dangers of the products should be highlighted.
"We urge all customers who own these lamp bases to stop using the products and return them to any Ikea store to get a full refund," said Ikea.
Customers do not need to provide proof of purchase (receipt) to obtain the full refund, according to Ikea, while apologising to customers for the inconvenience caused.
