China Railway waiting for HSR tender to open

KUALA LUMPUR: China Railway Group Ltd (CREC) is still keen to participate in the high-speed rail (HSR) project connecting Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
“We are an infrastructure contractor. We also invest in infrastructure. We are interested but we are waiting for the Singaporean or Malaysian government to call for the tender,” China Railway Engineering Corp Sdn Bhd general manager Cai Zemin told reporters yesterday.
He said it has not received any request from the governments to submit any proposals. He declined to comment on financing for the HSR project.
CREC and its joint venture partner, Iskandar Waterfront Holdings (IWH), own 60% equity in Bandar Malaysia, which will be a transport hub for the HSR. It will also have direct links to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Changi Airport in Singapore and the proposed Pan Asean Rail Transit to Bangkok.
IWH group executive vice chairman Tan Sri Lim Kang Hoo said it is also interested to participate in the HSR project with CREC.
“Definitely we will. If they invite us. We are also in the same line so of course, we are not experts in railway and we would have to depend on them but we are in infrastructure, we are in civil, we have been doing all this, so it is nothing new.
“We have other groups in the company that can participate. We have the property division and the infrastructure division,” he said. - by Eva Yeong
