PETALING JAYA: A piece of airplane debris was discovered along the southern coast of South Africa today, although further examination is required to determine if it belongs to MH370.
In a statement, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the debris found near the town of Mosselbay could possibly originate from an 'Inlet Cowling' of an aircraft engine.
"However, further examination and analysis are required to verify if the debris belongs to MH370.
"The Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCA) are in close contact with the South African Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on this matter," he said.
Liow said that a team will be despatched to the location to retrieve the debris, adding that MOT will provide updates when new information becomes available.
