Disabled group march to Parliament to submit memorandum to Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: The government should waive the Goods and Services Tax (GST) for the disabled community in Malaysia, said representatives of the Independent Living and Training Centre Malaysia (ILCT).
Its president G. Francis Siva said the group has been burdened with the rising cost of living since the implementation of GST, especially in meeting their medical needs.
Francis said the disabled had to spend around 30% to 40% more to buy their necessities since GST was implemented last year.
today, a group of 30 wheelchair-bound people made their way to Parliament in the hopes of presenting a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Initially, Parliament security did not allow the group to enter, but later allowed eight representatives to enter the building. The memorandum was handed to Datuk Seri G. Palanivel.
"Please listen to our plight. Many of us are unemployed and do not have enough money to support our life.
"We have already reached our limit. We have already spoken to several related agencies but to no avail," Francis told reporters today.
In the memorandum, the group urged the government to use the identification card issued by the Welfare Department to waive GST for assistive devices and supplies used by the disabled.
