PUTRAJAYA: Umno prohibits its members from participating in the so-called 'Save Malaysia' gathering expected to be held this afternoon, said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
He said the gathering, organised by former minister in the prime minister's department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, was an attempt to topple an institution to achieve the objectives of certain individuals.
"Now they are saying it is not a programme to topple Umno but to save Malaysia. But they fail to understand who has administered the country all this while ...
is it not the Alliance and Barisan Nasional of which Umno is the backbone?" he said.
Tengku Adnan, who is Federal Territories Minister, spoke to reporters after he had launched the Putrajaya Umno Sports Carnival that featured football, futsal,
volleyball, netball, tug-of-war and draughts.
Replying to a question, he said Umno was prepared to let go of those members who were no longer interested to be with the party and current leadership.
"We do not want 'termites', enemies in our household ... if they do not see eye to eye, they can leave Umno, establish another party, and we know how to safeguard Umno," he said.

Tengku Adnan said Umno realised the existence of members who were not in agreement with the leadership, be it at the top, divisional or branch levels, and said this situation had to be addressed immediately.
Tengku Adnan said the carnival, being and to be held at all Umno divisions, was aimed at strengthening the bonds among the division and branch chiefs and the grassroots.
"We hope that this programme will strengthen relations among party members and serve as a platform to dismiss negative perceptions associated with Umno of
late," he said. — Bernama
