30 cars damaged in fire in condominium car park fire (Updated)

PETALING JAYA: A total of 30 cars and a motorcycle were destroyed in a fire at the basement car park of Villa Mas Condominium, Jalan Siar Ramas Barat, Sungai Buloh near here, today.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul said they received a distress at 5.31am and firemen arrived at the scene 12 minutes later.
"Firemen put out the blaze by 1.37pm," Mohd Sani said.
He added that all the vehicles were destroyed.
"The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and total losses is still under investigation," he added.
Mohd Sani said a total of 19 Fire and Rescue Department personnel from Sungai Buloh, Damansara and Selayang were dispatched to the scene.
Sungai Buloh police chief Supt Mohd Rozi Jidin told theSun the cause of fire is still being investigated but it is highly likely no foul play was involved.
"The fire seems to have started from one the cars and it spread quickly to other vehicles," Mohd Rozi said.
He added that so far about 20 police reports have been lodged.
Meanwhile, one of the victims, Nasarudin Abu Suffian, 43, said he heard sounds of what seemed like firecrackers at about 5am coming from the basement carpark, not knowing that a fire had erupted.
"What I heard next was the guards and residents alerting all the residents to evacuate the premises.
"It was a nightmare for me after I found out that my car was completely destroyed," he said.
He said he quickly packed his belongings and left the condominium.
A couple, Randy Lim, 36, and Hoi Yim Hoong, 32, said they are not sure what caused the incident.
"At 5.30am, we were sleeping and the electricity in our house was suddenly cut off. We heard people screaming from the ground floor," Lim said.
"We felt something was amiss and quickly packed our stuff and went down. We were shocked to see the fire at the basement car park," he added.
Lim said his car was totally damaged by the fire and he had lodged a report at Sungai Buloh police station.
