Khir Toyo out on parole after serving six months' in prison

SHAH ALAM: Former Selangor Mentri Besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo was granted parole today after serving six months in Kajang Prison for using his position to obtain land and a bungalow here, nine years ago.
According to source, Mohamad Khir arrived at the family house here at 7.15pm after the parole order was issued by the Parole Board during a meeting this afternoon.
Mohamad Khir was also required to report to the Parole Board's office in Klang each week and to adhere to 41 conditions during the parole period.
"Among the conditions Mohamad Khir has to adhere to are to remain in the areas of Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya over a period of two months. He must also be home between 7pm and 7am and cannot issue any statement to the media," the source told Bernama.
Under the parole system, the prisoner will serve his remaining sentence outside the prison and live with his family while under the supervision of a parole officer.
Meanwhile, Bernama check found that house of the former Sungai Panjang assemblyman was filled with visitors.
However, media attempts to speak to Mohamad Khir or his close family members were unsuccessful.
On Sept 22 last year, the Federal Court dismissed the final appeal by Mohamad Khir and upheld his conviction and one-year jail sentence for obtaining for himself and his wife two lots of land and a bungalow in Seksyen 7, Shah Alam, from Ditamas Sdn Bhd, through its director Datuk Shamsuddin Hayroni.
The property was bought at a price of only RM3.5 million despite the fact that Ditamas had paid RM6.5 million for it on Dec 23, 2004.
Mohamad Khir committed the offence at the official residence of the Selangor Mentri Besar in Jalan Permata 7/1, Seksyen 7, Shah Alam, on May 29, 2007.
He was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum sentence of two years' jail or fine, or both, upon conviction. — Bernama
