KUALA LUMPUR: Goods and Services Tax (GST) special refunds totalling RM89.2 million have been paid out to 987 businesses as of March 9, the Dewan Rakyat heard today.
In a written reply to Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping), the Finance Ministry said of the 1,303 applications processed, 235 were rejected for not meeting the criteria set out under Sections 190 and 191 of the GST Act 2014.
The special refund for GST-registered businesses is to avoid double taxation.
In Malaysia, the GST came into force on April 1 last year at a rate of six per cent, replacing the Sales and Services Tax (SST) totalling 16 per cent. — Bernama
