Rafizi charged for violating Official Secrets Act 1972 (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli was charged with two offences under the Official Secrets Act 1972 (OSA) for allegedly releasing classified information on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
At the Sessions Court today, Rafizi, 39, claimed trial to possessing page 98 of the "1MDB Audit Report", an offence under Section 8(1)(c)(iii) of the OSA.
He is alleged to have committed the offence at about 3pm on March 24 at the Parliament lobby.
Rafizi also claimed trial to a second charge of disclosing the contents of the page in a press conference at Parliament lobby at about 3pm on March 28, an offence under Section 8 (1)( c )(iv) of the OSA.
If convicted under either count, Rafizi is liable to face a minimum one year jail term which may extend to a maximum of seven years.
Sessions Judge Zulqarnain Hassan fixed bail at RM3,000 with one surety for both charges.
Rafizi also claimed trial at the Magistrates Court to a charge of defaming Lembaga Tabung Haji by publishing allegations on www.rafiziramli.com.
He is alleged to have committed the offence at about 9am at Lembaga Tabung Haji on Feb 18, 2016.
Magistrate Mohd Rehan Mohd Aris set bail at RM1,00 with one surety.
Case management for all three cases will be heard on April 29.
Rafizi was represented by R.Sivarasa while Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Abazafree Abbas appeared for the prosecution.
