KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman police plugged a Chinese drug pipeline when it smashed five international which aimed to use Malaysia as a transit point to 'export' drugs to several countries.
Initial investigations revealed the syndicates - headed by Malaysians and foreigners - had used the services of courier and sea cargo transport companies to send the drugs overseas.
The police put the spoke in the wheels of the syndicates in five separate raids in the federal capital, Selangor and Johor between April 1 and 6.
Bukit Aman Narcotics CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said a series of operations saw the arrest of 10 foreigners and four Malaysians aged between 26 and 40.
He said the foreigners, comprising Vietnamese, Indonesians, Nigerians and Thais, were believed to have been major players in the drug trade when Bukit Aman police short-circuited their plans.
In the raids led by the Narcotics CID and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING), he said an assortment of drugs weighing 16.4kg and worth about RM2.3 million, were seized.
Most of the drugs seized were syabu, followed by ketamine, ganja, heroin and opium.
"Initial investigations revealed the drugs were sent from China to cater to the international market," he said.
In the first raid at Tasik Perdana Industrial Park, Puchong on April 1, Mohd Mokhtar said the police seized 1kg of syabu worth RM150,000.
"Two days later, three raids were conducted at the Casa Residency in Kuala Lumpur and Ampang, resulting in the arrest of two Indonesian men and seizure of 0.9kg of drugs worth RM135,000.
"Meanwhile, on Monday, the police arrested two Thai women and an Indonesian woman in Sungai Besi, seizing 0.3kg of syabu worth RM45,000," he told reporters here today.
Mohd Mokhtar said two men, a Nigerian woman and an Indonesian woman were arrested in two separate raids on Tuesday in Petaling Jaya. Here, the police seized 3.2kg of drugs worth RM480,000.
Four separate raids conducted in Johor Baru on Wednesday saw the arrest of four locals and a Vietnamese woman, and the seizure of 11kg of an assortment of drugs.
The narcotics chief said ill-gotten gains seized from the anti-drug operation in Johor led to the confiscation of cash, several watches and seven cars worth about RM531,000.
Mohd Mokhtar said the 14 suspects were remanded for six days until April 12. — Bernama
