PUTRAJAYA: Rumours of a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer being detained for destroying evidence related to the Commission's investigations on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's RM2.8 million bungalow and the embezzlement of RM100 million from the Youth and Sports Ministry has turned out to be false.
MACC director of investigations Datuk Azam Baki said today that while it was true an MACC officer was arrested by the Commission, it had nothing to do with the probe on Lim or the Youth and Sports Ministry case.
He said the officer who is in his 30's was arrested on Thursday for allegedly demanding for a RM20,000 bribe from a police officer who is being probed by the MACC for an alleged corruption case.
Azam said the Commission's raiding party also recovered RM20,000 from the MACC officer who is expected to be charged in court for the offence today.
A weblog had posted a claim that an MACC officer of the rank of assistant superintendant was held for eliminating case files related to investigations on Lim and officials of the Youth and Sports Ministry. The blog claimed that MACC officers also found RM50,000 in the suspect's possession.
