PETALING JAYA: True to being consumer-friendly, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has opened its first RM17.4 million fully equipped branch office at Jalan Pekaka 8/1D for the convenience of those residing in the northern areas of the council region.
Its mayor Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said the residents need no longer drive all the way to the MBPJ headquarters which is situated a little to the south to do their council chores.
"The branch office provides all services as that offered at the headquarters," he added.
On another issue, Azizi said the council has very limited enforcement powers where Bukit Gasing Forest Park is concern.
"I think the Forestry Department has more authority over the Bukit Gasing Forest Park," he added.
Azizi said they do carry out patrolling activities at random with the park situated there.
"We are mulling with the idea of getting members of the public and schoolchildren to join the forest ranger program so that they can monitor what is happening at the forest," he added.
Last week, joggers were caught by surprise when they found several spots along their running trail burned due to a forest fire at Bukit Gasing Forest Park.
Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran told theSun he will call on the relevant authorities to initiate action, including having regularly patrolling at the forest park which borders Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to avert any untoward incidences.
