Singaporeans felt they 'did little' in remembering Lee Kuan Yew

SINGAPORE: "Not doing anything on the first anniversary would be a great disrespect," that was one of thousand responses Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was getting.
"I thought we had done too little. For a man who had used his life to build a comfortable home for us and gotten nothing in return. I hope the unhappiness will stop here as Mr LKY will never want to see this happening," another of his Facebook follower wrote.
This is following the claim by his sister, Dr Lee Wei Ling, that he had abused his power to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Lee Kuan Yew's (pix) passing in order to establish a dynasty.
"The accusations are completely untrue," he posted on his Facebook Sunday in response to Dr Lee's claim.
Dr Lee Wei Ling made the claim on her Facebook which later was deleted from the social media platform on the same day.
"The first anniversary of a person's passing is a significant moment to remember him and reflect on what he meant to us. The more so with Mr Lee Kuan Yew. The Cabinet had discussed how we should mark the occasion. My advice was that we should leave it to ground-up efforts. Groups should keep their
observances in proportion, and focus on the future," he wrote.
Lee, who is at the helm since 2004, said that the Cabinet recognised the strong desire of many Singaporeans to show their respect for Lee Kuan Yew, and honour what he did for Singaporeans.
"We reviewed the events and observances that different groups had planned, and agreed that they were generally appropriate. They expressed the sincerely felt sentiments of Singaporeans, which my Cabinet colleagues and I deeply appreciate.
"The idea that I should wish to establish a dynasty makes even less sense. Meritocracy is a fundamental value of our society, and neither I, the People's Action Party, nor the Singapore public would tolerate any such attempt," he wrote and ended it with his initial "LHL".
Lee's posting had gauged over 20,000 reactions so far by his followers while 2,667 had shared the posting.
"Mr Lee Kuan Yew was just too great a man in his life to be forgotten by many! He will be remembered every year on March 23rd, August 9th (The National Day) and September 16th," said one of the 1,396 who commented on Lee's posting.
Activities were seen held on March 23, 2016, to commemorate the one-year death anniversary of founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, one of the world's longest serving prime minister, who passed away at the age of 91.
