KUALA LUMPUR: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is calling for stern action against the perpetrator of the acid attack against two good friends.
In making the call, its deputy minister Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun urged the authorities to speed up investigations into the case involving Nurul Umira Azali and Nurfarziana Hussein Harnor Harry.
"The ministry is willing to provide counseling or guidance to both of them," Chew told reporters after handing over RM60,675 for their medical fund that was raised by the MCA Public Services and Complaints department.
Both women would receive RM30,337.50 from the fund for their medical treatment.
Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong thanked those who had generously contributed to the medical fund which was established last December.
Last August, both Nurul Umira and Nurfarziana were returning from buying groceries in Taman Setapak Indah Jaya when a man on a motorbike splashed acid on both women who were taken unaware.
Following the attack, Nurfarziana suffered serious injuries to her face, head, eyes and hand while Nurul Umira suffered injury to her left arm and neck.
