BESUT: Three policemen are being investigated in relation to two prisoners who escaped from police custody in separate incidents in Hulu Terengganu and Kemaman yesterday.
Terengganu police chief Datuk Rosli Abdul Rahman said two of the officers were from the Kemaman District Police Headquarters (IPD), while another was from the Hulu Terengganu IPD.
He said the police would conduct a thorough investigation covering various aspects, including negligence.
"The investigation is still ongoing covering all angles, and we will not compromise if anyone is found guilty, and disciplinary action will also be imposed," he told reporters after the Besut police chief handing over of duties ceremony here, today.
Yesterday, two prisoners escaped from police custody when they were being taken to the Kemaman Court and the Hulu Terengganu IPD respectively.
Suspect Mohd Alaudin Hasan, 30, who is believed to be involved in vehicle theft, escaped as soon as his handcuffs were removed during the process to record fingerprints at the Forensic Identification Centre at about 9.40am.
Just 10 minutes prior to the incident, a 28-year-old snatch theft and drug suspect also fled when getting out of the police lorry at the compound of the Magistrate's Court in Kemaman.
The suspect, who was still handcuffed, escaped and ran towards the Chukai town, he said.
However, after hiding for nearly six hours, the suspect turned up at the Kemaman IPD to surrender at 3.10pm. — Bernama
