PETALING JAYA: The air quality nationwide remains good despite several areas recording Air Pollutant Index (API) readings close to the unhealthy level.
As of 4pm today, none of the areas breached the 100 mark which indicates an unhealthy air quality due to the heavy downpour in Klang Valley.
Among areas that recorded moderate API readings were Putrajaya (82), Port Klang (82), Malacca City (92), Shah Alam (78) and Nilai (77).
Penang, meanwhile, was more cloudy than hazy after almost few days of being enveloped in haze.
Checks with the Department of Environment showed all three monitoring stations in the state recording air quality at moderate levels.
The highest API reading was recorded at the USM monitoring station at 70 as at 4pm followed by Seberang Jaya 2 (55) and Prai (36)
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy and above 300, hazardous.
The public can refer to the DOE portal at apims.doe.gov.my for the latest API reading.
On Saturday, i Meteorological Department director-general Datuk Che Gayah Ismail said the haze was originating from within our borders, rather than from Indonesia.
