Police detain man for insulting Islam on Facebook

IPOH: Police have detained a man for making comments insulting Islam via his Facebook account in Kamunting, Taiping, about 90km from here, yesterday morning.
The suspect, Abdul Rahman Abdullah, 38, of Kampung Station, Kuala Kangsar was detained by a police team from the Bukit Aman CID.
Perak Police chief Datuk Seri Abd Rahim Hanafi said police also seized three cellphones and a blue pouch bag from the suspect.
"The case was investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998," he said in a statement here, last night.
On Tuesday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar issued a directive for the suspect, who used the name 'Gunalan Muniandy', to be arrested
quickly for issuing a statement which was regarded as abrasive. — Bernama
