Printing of ballot papers for early, postal voters completed

KUCHING: Printing of ballot papers for early and postal voters in the 11th Sarawak state election has been completed.
Sarawak Election Commission director Datuk Takun Sunggah said the ballot papers totaling 24,604 for early voters and 104 for postal (overseas) voters, were printed by Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Berhad (PNMB), Kuching branch.
"Printing of the ballot papers started on nomination night (April 25) and the process is now completed," he told Bernama when contacted here.
He said the ballot papers for normal voters who would be casting their vote on May 7 were being printed by PNMB.
According to the electoral roll issued by the EC, 65 of the 80 constituencies contained early voters comprising army, police and general operations force (GOF) personnel and their spouses.
The EC set next Tuesday as polling day, while this Monday as closing date for application by postal (overseas) voters to cast their ballot.
The EC set Wednesday as closing date for application by police, army and media personnel to cast their vote by post, and this Sunday as closing date for application by EC workers to cast their vote by post.
The electoral roll showed that Stakan constituency has the highest number of early voters with 7,055, followed by Bukit Sentosa (3,163), Nangka (3,043), Batu Kawah (1,241) and Sri Aman (1,075).
Batu Lintang has the highest number of postal voters with 13, followed by Pujut (nine) and Pelawan (six).
The total number of eligible voters in this state election is 1,138,650 of which 1,113,522 are normal voters, 25,022 early voters consisting of army, police and GOF personnel and their spouses, and 106 absentee (overseas) postal voters.
Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, the BN candidate for Bukit Kota, which has 16,437 voters and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, the BN candidate for Bukit Sari, which has 12,418 voters won uncontested on nomination day. — Bernama
