Nazri to move resolution to expel Muhyiddin, Mukhriz after Sarawak election

KUCHING: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz (pix) said he would propose the expulsion of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir from Umno at the next Umno Supreme Council meeting scheduled after the Sarawak state election.
Nazri who is also the Tourism and Culture Minister said Muhyiddin (former Deputy Prime Minister) and Mukhriz (former Kedah Menteri Besar) said they had 'conspired' against Umno by becoming stooges of the opposition which is a breach of the party's principles since they are still members of the party.
The freedom of speech given by Umno to them had been misused and that would be enough evidence to proof their guilt, he told reporters here today.
Nazri said Umno practiced democracy and allowed members to criticise but such criticism must be within the perimeters allowed but Muhyiddin and Mukhriz had crossed the line.
"A party meeting is scheduled after the Sarawak election and I will personally move a resolution to expel both leaders because we need to take action," he said.
The duo and former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed were among speakers at a so-called 'Save Malaysia' gathering in Jitra, Kedah last night to talk against the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, in the presence of opposition leaders from PKR, DAP and Pas.
When asked to comment on Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem's decision to bar several opposition leaders from entering Sarawak, Nazri said the decision was to preserve peace and harmony in the state.
On the ban on some leaders and activists from Peninsular Malaysia, Adenan had said it was to prevent bigots, extremists and unsavory characters from entering the state and creating disturbance during the election.
Nazri said the peace and harmony enjoyed by Sarawak now need to continue to guarantee economic development.
"If we look at the election campaign here, it is being carried out in a civilised and peaceful way although minor isolated incidents are reported. So, the decision to bar those who may create unnecessary trouble was a good one," he said. — Bernama
