Paip acts to supply water to drought-hit Chini residents
KUANTAN: Pengurusan Air Pahang Berhad (Paip) has provided 43 static tanks to supply raw water to the residents of Chini near here badly affected by drought brought on by the El Nino phenomenon.
Paip said in a statement that 4,500 account holders had been affected by the absence of supply from the Chini water treatment plant.
Up to yesterday, 16 tanker lorries had sent water to the Chini 3, 4 and 5 highland areas, it said.
Pahang director of health Datuk Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar said yesterday the spring water near the Felda Chini Training Centre was unsafe for drinking and cooking as it contained coliform and e-coli bacteria, and could only be used for washing and bathing.
Paip also said that 81 static tanks, seven tanker lorries, five Paip tankers and two leased tankers as well as seven filling stations had been provided to supply water to the people of Lipis owing to supply problem at the Air Jelai water plant.
Two tanker lorries and 29 static tanks had been provided to supply water to 360 account holders in Mentakab, Lanchang and Temerloh facing problem of supply from the Lubuk Kawah plant in Temerloh, it added. — Bernama
