PETALING JAYA: AirAsia has shortlisted 10 out of 487 submissions for the AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2016 (AARRDS2016) Kuala Lumpur auditions.
However, only three will be chosen to represent the country to compete at the Grand Finale of the AARRDS2016 which will be held in Kuala Lumpur this August.
AirAsia Berhad chief executive officer Aireen Omar said the search would bring together the region's fashion talents and industry as they have expanded the search to five Asean countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines.
"Since the establishment of AARRDS in 2015, we are impressed with not only the growing number of submissions that came in online, but also with the quality of vision displayed in their sketches which continues to highlight the level of talent in the Asean region," she said.
Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) founder Andrew Tan said that he was thrilled to be working with AirAsia for the second time and being able to foster new talents, as well as giving an opportunity to the young designers to present their collection and creativity on a professional runway.
"This year's competition is more challenging for our local aspiring fashion designers but I believe this is also a golden opportunity opportunity for students to exchange creative ideas with their counterpart," Andrew said.
Aireen and Tan is also a part of the panel of judges for this year's Designer Search, along with Vivy Yusof, owner of fashion e-commerce site FashionValet.com, fashion designer Alia Bastamam and editor-in-chief of Glam magazine, Suzie Adnan.
The Top 3 representing Malaysia to the AARRDS2016 will stand a chance to walk away as "Air Asia's Most Promising Young Designer 2016", prizes worth at least RM350,000 including a confirmed show segment to showcase their full collection at the KLFW RTW 2017.
