PASIR GUDANG: The Johor state government has tightened guidelines to ensure government grants for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are used to carry out activities for the benefit of the NGOs concerned.
Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pix) said this after opening the Veterans Association of Malaysia Armed Forces Pasir Gudang branch office at Kampung Kopok here today.
"Every year, the state government allocates a total of RM3 million for NGOs in the state. To ensure the money is being used for the benefit of the NGO, starting from this year, the government would like to know where the government grant goes and how it is spent.
"We also want to know what type of activities or programmes have been implemented."
He said, in the past, the state government did not make checks after giving out the grants.
"We will change the system this year," Mohamed Khaled added.
He also announced an allocation of RM200,000 for building a multi-purpose field for Kampung Kopok.
"I hope this field will be put to good use by the residents, especially youths, so that they will stay away from social ills," he added.
