Burmese worker hacked to death by parang wielding men

    BUKIT MERTAJAM: A Burmese worker's head was almost severed by a group of men armed with parangs at a "rumah kongsi" of a chili farm in Juru estate here today morning.
    In the 5am incident, Central Seberang Perai District deputy police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Muhamad said, the armed men had gone to the rumah kongsi about 5am and attacked the deceased in his 20s and his friend, also a Burmese.
    While the deceased succumbed to his head, neck and body injuries, Mohd Sabri said the friend also suffered injuries and is being treated at Bukit Mertajam hospital.
    The body of the deceased has also been sent to the same hospital mortuary.
    Mohd Sabri said they recovered two parangs at the scene of the incident.
    Police have yet to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
    The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder which carries the mandatory death sentence if convicted.
