GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will send a notice to the landowner in Teluk Bahang to explain the situation over alleged land-clearing activities on the site.
State local government committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said it has received information from the land office and wants the landowner to clarify what type of activities are being carried out.
He added the council was scheduled to send the notice by today.
"We have to give them an opportunity to explain what were the works being carried out on their land and if the works are found to breach the rules, then a stop-work order will be issued," he told reporters after visiting the MBPP closed circuit television control room at Komtar today.
He said although the works were being carried out on private land, owners must apply for council approval.
On a newspaper report last Sunday that the land was being earmarked for a mixed development project, Chow said so far the state or MBPP haven't received any such application.
On the issue of addressing land clearing activities on hill slopes, Chow said the council is installing more CCTV cameras at the foothills of Paya Terubong and Batu Feringghi by the end of the year.
He six will be operational by August and another 22 will be installed at foot hills by the end of this year.
