Security stepped up along Sungai Golok

KOTA BARU: The authorities have stepped up security control along the Sungai Golok common border between Malaysia and Thailand after the river has virtually dried up, allowing people to just walk across.
Kelantan National Security Council secretary Ahmad Muhamad Yusof said random checks had to be conducted to ensure that foreigners did not walk into Malaysia illegally.
The council had asked the Malaysian Armed Forces and relevant agencies to tighten control along the river, he told Bernama.
He said the river, which was dry or shallow at stretches, had become a focal point for the people to have a 'water carnival' almost daily, and there was a possibility of foreigners entering Malaysia illegally. — Bernama
