KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has announced the 96 contractors who have prequalified for the infrastructure and systems packages of the RM9 billion Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) project.
The prequalified tenderers include big names like Zecon Bhd, WCT Bhd, Muhibbah Engineering (M) Bhd and Gamuda Bhd.
Speaking to a press conference after announcing the contractors yesterday, Prasarana president and group CEO Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz said it will now start the tendering process for the 37km project.
“The tender period extends from May onwards, from the first submission of the first scheduled tender to the final award of the last scheduled tender.”
However, Azmi said the project owner has not decide on the total number of packages that will be awarded yet.
He said the packages announced earlier are for eight categories under the infrastructure and systems packages, including stations, viaducts, park and ride facilities, ancillary buildings, train depots (open and bumiputra), cut and cover (open) and bus depots (bumiputra).
Prasarana will announce the qualified contractors for another four categories under the systems package in the next two to three weeks.
Azmi said the categories include the automatic fare collection system, track works and conductor power rail system, depot equipment and track maintenance vehicles and electronic access contract system.
Azmi said 45% to 50% of the contract packages will be given to bumiputra contractors.
“However, we are looking at spreading more of the packages so that we will have more participation. But the big packages will go to the big boys in the industry that will be able to conduct and complete the work,” he added.
LRT3, which is scheduled to be completed in August 2020, will have 26 stations, with 2km of it running underground, linking Bandar Utama with Klang.
