NIBONG TEBAL: A special fund to save the remnants of Malay land in the state should be set up, said Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) chairman Datuk Shabudin Yahya.
He said instead of pointing fingers to federal government agencies like Perda, a fund to buy back parcels of Malay land that has been sold could prove to be a solution to the problem.
Shabudin who was speaking to the media after launching the Perodua technical training center at Bukit Panchor here, was commenting on the statement by Penang Malay Association (Pemenang) president Tan Sri Mohd Yusoff Latiff who claimed that government agencies in the state had failed to protect Malay land in Penang.
The technical training center is a collaboration between Perodua and Perda Tech to train students on technical knowledge pertaining to automotive mechanics and maintenance.
Earlier in his speech, Shabudin said under the collaboration there are currently 1,179 students in the institute pursuing various courses, and hopes the partnership will develop more skilled and quality manpower in line with current technological advancements.
"Under the collaboration between Perodua and Perda Tech, Perda Tech will be offering the accommodation, the study workshop and facilities to a maximum of 25 participants for each session," he said.
A total of RM263,700 has been spent by Perodua to furnish the facility with equipment and vehicles, while Perda Tech will provide facilities for both training and lodging for Perodua staff attending the training.
