Ku declared 14 assets to police, court told

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Datuk Ku Chin Wah (pix) declared some 14 assets to the police in February this year, the Sessions Court was told today.
Bukit Aman's Police Integrity and Standard Compliance Department officer DSP Amran Ab Rasharkin said the 14 assets were declared to the police, updated and recorded in the Human Resource Management Information Systems (HRMIS) since Feb 3, this year.
Among the assets declared included three shares amounting to RM960,342.08, six properties, including commercial properties and residential units amounting to RM 1,634,086, two vehicles worth RM107,413 and three savings account totalling RM 426,305.64.
He also told the court that these assets, some of which registered under Ku's wife's name were declared between 1984 and this year.
Answering questions posed by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Budiman Lutfi Mohamad, Amran who handles the department's computer also said that Ku's last drawn salary was RM19,432.81 per month.
However, when questioned by defence lawyer Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent on the assets, Amran said he was only aware of the recent declaration.
He said he was not aware that there were 21 other declarations made by Ku in the past during his tenure in the police force for 35 years.
"I only have one declaration, which is in the system," he said this before Judge Sohaini Alias.
Ku was charged under Section 49(3) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 for failing to declare his acceptance of a 'commission' amounting to RM961,500 in a sworn statement dated Jan 8, 2014.
The charge occurred between Dec 23, 2013 and Jan 21, 2014 at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya.
Another witness, Inland Revenue Board Assessment Executive Officer Mona Lizza Mustaffa disclosed to the court Ku's declared income between 2009 and 2014.
She said that in 2013, Ku had an income of RM1.01 million, aside from his wages, dividends and rent.
Mona Lizza added that in 2009, the income earned by Ku was RM961,500, with a gradual increase over the years, with him earning RM130,147 in 2014.
DPP Mohd Asnawi Abu Hanipa also took the stand to testify today.
Sohaini then set May 16 for the trial to continue.
