KUCHING: Sarawak Fire and Rescue personnel have retrieved the body of a woman in the area where debris of the helicopter that went missing in Sarawak yesterday were found, said its director Nor Hisham Mohammad.
The debris were found near the Batang Lupar river in Sebuyau earlier today.
Nor Hisham Mohammad said the body was found at noon, about 15km from the Sebuyau jetty.
The body was handed over to police at the jetty, he said.
The Eurocopter AS350 with six people on board, among them Plantation Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister Datuk Noriah Kasnon, her husband Asmuni Abdullah and Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Wan Muhammad Khairil Anuar Wan Ahmad, was on its way from Betong to Kuching when it vanished from radar screens at 4.32pm yesterday.
Also on board were Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Sundaran Annamalai, bodyguard Ahmad Sobri Harun and Filipino pilot Rudolf Rex Ragas.
Nor Hisham also said scuba teams were scouring the river as part of the search and rescue mission and that the main wreckage was believed to be in the river. — Bernama
