KUALA LUMPUR: Many Malaysians spared no expense to shower their mothers with lavish gifts and family dinners to show their love and appreciation on Mother's Day which was celebrated today.
Checks by theSun showed that restaurants and eateries were packed with families during lunchtime yesterday.
One such instance was that of Claudine Ana-Marie from Seri Hartamas who was out for lunch with her mother and her mother in-law.
"I think it is important to honour your mother during this special day, whether it is your biological mother or otherwise for the love, kindness and sacrifices that they have showered upon us," she told theSun.
She said that this was a day to make mothers feel special as they do the same for their children and their families every day of the year.
"No expense should be spared for them," she said.
Further checks by theSun at the Nu Sentral shopping mall showed that although there was no particular fanfare about Mother's Day, a prominent restaurant outlet in the mall revealed that their dinner service was fully booked.
"We have been booked out for lunch and we have a lot of reservations for dinner," said its manager, Azalea Nordin.
She said the outlet had a special promotion where all mothers eat for free.
Going in another direction was 25-year-old lawyer Rayna Gandhi who celebrated four generations of mothers to a brunch at her grandmother's house.
"We had my grandmother, my mother and my aunties, my cousin and her daughter at the brunch. It is tradition in our family to do this because it's hard to get restaurant reservations on Mother's Day," she said.
Rayna said the feeling of showering love and affection on all the women in her life is nothing short of special.
"It's not only about mothers, it's aunties and grandmothers too. They have also mothered us at some point in our lives," she added.
