Housewife charged with insulting Islamic religion at a mosque compund

IPOH: A housewife was charged in a Magistrates' court with insulting the Islamic religion at a mosque compound.
Tham Yut Mooi, 45, from Taman Pakatan Jaya was said to have committed the offence about 5.30pm on May 5, 2016 at Abu Ubaidah mosque in Taman Perpaduan, Tambun here .
She was charged under Section 298 of the Penal Code where if convicted she could face a one year jail sentence or a fine or both.

The woman whow is a mother of two children was represented by Chiang Woei Chien and claimed trial after the interpreter read out the charge.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab had applied that the court send her for mental evaluation at Hospital Bahagia in Ulu Kinta to ascertain if she was in stable state of mind when she committed the offence and also whether she is fit to take the plea.
Magistrate Nurul Asyifa Redzuan ordered the accused to be placed at the hospital for a month under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The case will be re mentioned on June 9.
