Respect leaders of today, says Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: If the nation's former leaders respect the leaders of today, that respect will be reciprocated.
"While our previous leaders have contributed much to the nation, they must remember that the current leadership has also done as much, if not more, for the country's well-being," Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in his speech at the 4B Malaysia alumni dinner, here, today.
"When your time is over, when you are an alumni, please respect those who are here today. We won't deny the contributions you have made for us, but you have to admit maybe those from today have contributed even better," he said.
Ahmad Zahid said when revenge consumed a person, it would impair his judgment, adding that it was only appropriate if former and current leaders respect each other and look for similarities, instead of differences between them.
Although no names were mentioned, Ahmad Zahid was likely referring to former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is behind the Citizens' Declaration calling for the ouster of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Meanwhile, an unattended bag that caused alarm at the event turned out to be an equipment bag of a freelance photographer.
When contacted by theSun, Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainol Samah said in the 9.30pm incident, a passer-by alerted the police that a bag had been left unattended at the lobby.
"Our officers immediately went to check on the matter. Upon arrival, we informed the bag owner to retrieve his bag immediately.
"When the owner arrived, we asked him to unlock his bag. However, there was only his camera and other tools in it," Zainol said.
